About Ms. Streck
Thanks for stopping by my website! I am an educator who began working with the Wake County Public School System in 2013, and I am thoroughly enthused to teach at Carroll Magnet Middle School. Having graduated from New York University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Latin American Studies, and from Fordham University with a Master of Science in Teaching, I am a life-long learner and make every attempt to ignite academic interest and curiosity in my students.
I am an experienced Special Education teacher having taught nearly a decade between New York City, the Hudson Valley and Wake County. I have taught students in grades 6-12 of varying abilities, backgrounds and in a wide variety of content- Common Core subjects and beyond. I excel at challenging my students to think beyond their comfort zones while still making class time a rewarding and enjoyable experience. I get a great deal of joy out of each of the individual personalities of my students and work hard to help them tap into their own potential to be successful learners and leaders.
As I was raised on the principles of "You can do anything if you put your mind to it!" and that "It takes all kinds [of people] to make the world go 'round" and firmly believe in those ideals, I include them in my instructional approach and relationships with my students. I have been recognized as an advocate for diversity and acceptance among middle school students and strive to cultivate that same openness in my classroom among all my pupils.
On a more personal note, I was born in Texas and raised in the historic Hudson Valley of New York State, but I greatly enjoy living in North Carolina these days. I have lived abroad in South America and still try to use my Spanish-speaking skills as often as possible. You can usually find me toting around a to-go cup because I LOVE coffee! I also enjoy outdoor activities, such as stand-up paddle boarding, hiking, biking, camping & gardening. I love the beach and collecting seashells and beach glass. Also, books (especially Non-Fiction, Historical Fiction, Science Fiction & Fantasy), old movies, all kinds of music, my Jeep and naps in my hammock are among my favorite things. My partner and I have three fur babies: two cats whose names are JB and Jelly and one dog named Willie. We also get great fulfillment from our nieces and nephews visiting them in NY as often as we can.
Finally, I look forward to a great school year getting to know and working with my students and their families as we navigate this new stretch of the educational journey together!
As always,
"HAVE THE BEST DAY EVER!!"
